Die Überarbeitung der ÖVGW-Richtlinie G78, Ausgabe Juli 1996 war auf Grund neuer Erkenntnisse und langjähriger Betriebserfahrungen erforderlich. Insbesondere wurden die Durchführungsfristen von Gasdruckregelanlagen überarbeitet und neu festgelegt. Weiters wurden geringfügige Aktualisierungen vorgenommen. Diese Richtlinie gilt für die Überwachung und die Wartung von Gasdruckregelanlagen gemäß ÖVGW-Richtlinien G 73/1, G 73/2 und G 73/3, sofern diese Anlagen im Verantwortungsbereich eines Netzbetreibers gemäß Gaswirtschaftsgesetz liegen. Sinngemäß kann diese Richtlinie auch für Messanlagen gemäß den ÖVGW-Richtlinien G 74 und G 75 angewendet werden. Durch Gesetze oder Bescheide festgelegte Überprüfungen und personelle Anforderungen werden durch diese Richtlinie nicht berührt.
