Die vorliegende ÖNORM dient als Grundlage für die Einteilung von Skipisten in verschiedene Schwierigkeitsgrade sowie für die Markierung und Beschilderung von Skiabfahrten. Einige der in dieser ÖNORM festgelegten Schilder dürfen auch bei Loipen und Skiwanderwegen verwendet werden.Die vorliegende ÖNORM wurde erstellt, um die einheitliche Klassifizierung von Skiabfahrten sowie die Verwendung einheitlicher Schilder auf Skiabfahrten zu ermöglichen. Genormte, auf höchstmögliche Erkennbarkeit überprüfte graphische Symbole stellen - durch verbesserte, sprachungebundene Information - einen Beitrag zur Verringerung der Unfallgefahren dar.
