Diese ÖNORM legt allgemeine Grundsätze und Anforderungen für die Entwicklung, sowie die Verwendung von graphische Symbolen, die in Außen- und Innenräumen, an öffentlich zugänglichen Orten und in Bereichen, die vorwiegend der Freizeitgestaltung, dem Sport, der Touristik dienen für die Information der Öffentlichkeit vorgesehen sind. Besonderes Gewicht wird dabei auf Aspekte bei der Entwicklung eines Symbols, beim kombinierten Einsatz verschiedener Symbole und die Reproduktion der Symbole gelegt.
