Die Norm bezieht sich auf Fenster, Fenstertüren und deren Kombinationen im Hochbau, unabhängig vom Werkstoff und der Art der Konstruktion. Sie enthält klassifizierte Anforderungen an Fenster im Hinblick auf deren Luftdurchlässigkeit, Schlagregendichtheit und Verhalten bei Windbelastung sowie Angaben über die Eignungsprüfung. Die zugehörigen Prüfmethoden sind europäischen Normen zu entnehmen, die in Österreich als ÖNORMEN veröffentlicht worden sind. Die Anforderungen hinsichtlich der Wärmedämmung sind der ÖNORM B 8110 Teil 1, diejenigen hinsichtlich der Schalldämmung der ÖNORM B 8115 Teil 2 zu entnehmen.
