Diese ÖNORM legt Abmessungen, Anforderungen, Prüfungen, die Gütesicherung und das Verfahren zur Kennzeichnung gemäß § 3 (2) Normengesetz 1971 für Rohre aus Polyethylen PE 40 für Wasserleitungen und Trinkwasserleitungen fest. Bei Verwendung der Rohre für Wasser mit anderen Betriebstemperaturen als 20 °C ist der höchstzulässige Betriebsdruck gemäß Abschnitt 10, Tabelle 7, einzuhalten. Rohre für Trinkwasser sind als solche zu kennzeichnen (siehe Abschnitt 7), außerdem sind für Trinkwasserleitungen die Bestimmungen des Lebensmittelgesetzes zu beachten sowie die Anforderungen der ÖNORM B 5014-1 zu erfüllen. Rohre gemäß dieser ÖNORM werden vorzugsweise mechanisch verbunden.
