In the context of the digital exchange of geo-spatial data this standard unifies the semantic classification of geo-spatial objects as well as their attributes and establishes the respective structures. They rely on the tools and structure of GML for the coded transmission of structured geo-spatial data with geometric and semantic components. ÖNORM A 2261 corresponds to the scope of nature inventory data. Nature inventory data describe objects recognizable in nature (also in urban environment, for example city furniture) that are of interest in the large-scale range between 1:200 and 1:1000 and often up to 1: 5000. They serve as a basis for utility network documentation, for municipal administration, for planning and project development, for building authority management and the like. Of primary interest are objects on the ground surface or parts of such objects protruding from the ground surface.
