This Guideline aims at offering a uniform terminology and definitions for real and apparent water losses, that facilitate the user’s classification and interpretation of his system’s water losses, and making national and international comparison of water loss figures possible. Therefore an exact definition of the components of the water quantity balance and the exact recording of all relevant water volume flows in the supply system are required. With the help of this Guideline every water utility should be able to quantify and interpret their volume of water loss according to appropriate figures.
