Dieser Teil der IEC 60904 gilt für die folgenden photovoltaischen Einrichtungen für terrestrische Einsatzgebiete: - Solarzellen mit oder ohne Schutzabdeckung, - Baugruppen aus Solarzellen, - Module und -Systeme. Die Grundsätze in dieser Norm gelten für Prüfungen mit natürlichem und simuliertem Sonnenlicht. Die photovoltaische Umwandlung ist spektral selektiv aufgrund der Beschaffenheit der Halbleitermaterialien, die in PV-Solarzellen und PV-Modulen verwendet werden. Um die relative Leistung von verschiedenen PV-Einrichtungen und Materialien zu vergleichen, ist eine Referenznorm für die solare spektrale Verteilung nötig. Diese Norm enthält eine spektrale Verteilung der solaren Referenzbestrahlungsstärke.
