Beim betriebsmäßigen Umgang mit offenen radioaktiven Stoffenkann es sowohl zu arbeits- und ablaufbedingten nicht vermeidbaren als auch zu unvorhergesehenen Kontaminationen von Personen und von Oberflächen fester Körper kommen. Die ÖNORM beschreibt Präventivmaßnahmen zur Minimierung von Kontaminationen, Meßgeräte und Meßverfahren zur Feststellungvon Kontaminationen sowie die Durchführung von Dekontaminierungsmaßnahmen. In Anhängen sind Erste-Hilfe-Maßnahmen, Verfahrensschritte bei der Personendekontaminierung sowie Hinweise für die Dekontaminierung einzelner Materialien beschrieben.
