Diese Norm dient zur Bestimmung von EDTA-extrahierbaren Schwermetallen in Böden und ist unter Beachtung der allgemeinen Bestimmungen der ÖNORM L 1053 anzuwenden. Die Methode ermittelt in erster Linie komplexgebundene und an der Oberfläche von Bodenaggregaten angelagerte Bindungsformen der Schwermetalle. Die so ermittelten Gehalte korrelieren nur bedingt mit der Aufnahme durch Pflanzen. Die Werte ermöglichen gemeinsam mit den Ergebnissen aus Extraktionen mit starken Mineralsäuren (ÖNORM L 1085) und mit den Ergebnissen aus Extraktionen mit Salzlösungen (ÖNORM L 1094, Teile 1-3) eine bessere Beurteilung von Kontaminationen. Schwermetalle geogenen Ursprungs zeigen im Allgemeinen bei gleichem Gesamtgehalt wesentlich geringere Löslichkeit als solche anthropogenen Ursprungs.
