Diese ÖNORM spezifiziert die Anforderungen an die Werkstoffe, die in vulkanisierten Gummi-Dichtringen für 1) Rohrleitungssysteme zur Versorgung mit kaltem Trinkwasser (bis 45 °C) 2) Rohrleitungssysteme zur Versorgung mit heißem Trink- und Brauchwasser (bis 110 °C) 3) Rohrleitungssysteme zur Entwässerung, Kanalisation und Regenwasserableitung (ununterbrochener Durchfluß bis 45 °C und zeitweilig bis 90 °C) verwendet werden. Diese ÖNORM ist anzuwenden für Dichtringe für alle Rohrleitungs-Werkstoffe einschließlich Gußeisen, Stahl, Steinzeug, Faser-Zement, Beton, Kunststoffen und glasfaserverstärkten Kunststoffen. Dichtringe mit einem bauartspezifischen eingeschlossenen Hohlraum sind in den Anwendungsbereich dieser ÖNORM eingeschlossen.
