Diese Europäische Norm legt Merkmale, Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren für Laminatböden mit Direktdruck und Kunstharzdeckschicht fest. Sie enthält ein Klassifizierungssystem, das auf EN 685 basiert, mit praktischen Anforderungen für bestimmte Verwendungsbereiche und Beanspruchungsklassen. Dies dient dazu, aufzuzeigen, in welchen Bereichen Laminatböden zufrieden stellend eingesetzt werden können, sowie dazu, den Verbraucher in die Lage zu versetzen, informiert eine Auswahl zu treffen. Sie legt ebenfalls Anforderungen an Kennzeichnung und Verpackung fest. Für Laminatböden werden die Verwendungsbereiche "Wohnen" und "Gewerblich" berücksichtigt. Diese Norm legt keine Anforderungen für Bereiche fest, die regelmäßig Nässe ausgesetzt sind, wie etwa Badezimmer, Hauswirtschaftsräume oder Saunen; sie gilt jedoch für Küchen im Wohnbereich.
