Diese Norm beschreibt Anforderungen an Auslegung, Herstellung, Ausführung, Sicherheit und Leistungsvermögen (Wirkungsgrad und Emission), Anleitungen und Kennzeichnung zusammen mit zugehörigen Prüfverfahren und Prüfbrennstoffen für die Typprüfung von Feuerstätten, deren Hauptfunktion die Erzeugung von Wärme durch Strahlung, Konvektion oder beides ist und die auch Heizwasser für die zentrale Beheizung erzeugen können. Diese Norm gilt für nicht mechanisch betriebene Feuerstätten, die feste mineralische Brennstoffe nach den Anweisungen des Feuerstätten-Herstellers verfeuern.
