Die Norm ist für Innenrohrformstücke aus Schamotte anzuwenden, die dazu bestimmt sind, gemeinsam mit der Dämmschicht gemäß ÖNORM B 8241 und der Ummantelung gemäß ÖNORM B 8242 ein Fangsystem zu bilden, das den in der ÖNORM B 8215 festgelegten Anforderungen an dreischalige Fänge mit Schamotteinnenrohr entspricht. Sie enthält Anforderungen sowie die für die Güteprüfung und Gütesicherung notwendigen Prüfbestimmungen. Die Norm sieht eine Fremdüberwachung aufgrund eines Überwachungsvertrages mit einer österreichischen staatlich autorisierten Prüfanstalt sowie die Kennzeichnung "ÖNORM B 8240 geprüft" vor.
