ÖNORM B 8110-3

This ÖNORM specifies a method for determining the operative temperature in rooms for summer use. Methods according to ÖNORM EN ISO 52016-1 are used. The present Austrian Standard applies to all buildings or rooms that serve the permanent or temporary stay of people. It is distinguished between main rooms and ancillary rooms. The main rooms include the actual lounges and their communication routes (eg all rooms in single-family homes, all rooms in apartments, offices and the directly connected corridors, school class and corridor between the classrooms, patient rooms and directly connected corridors). It contains rules for avoiding summer overheating when no mechanical cooling is provided (ventilation systems with or without heat recovery may be taken into account). Regulations for ancillary rooms such as arcades, conservatories, staircases and atria (only used as a traffic area) are also included. Elevator shafts are not regulated in this ÖNORM. This ÖNORM only deals with the summer overheating. An interpretation of spaces to avoid overheating in the transitional season can be analogous. In rooms with a high proportion of glazing, this case may be more important. Compliance with the necessary sound insulation (especially in the case of open windows during the night or permanently operated ventilation systems) is not the subject of this ÖNORM.
