ÖNORM B 3800-5

The present ÖNORM serves to test and evaluate the behaviour of facades in the case of fire, in particular the assessment of fire propagation via the facade surface. The assumed scenario is a full fire in a room that breaks out of a window and attacks the adjacent facade. On the basis of the test results according to this Austrian Standard it is possible to estimate if the façade cladding facilitates fire spread starting from the second floor above the fire source and if a hazard, particularly due to falling off of large pieces, exists for the rescue teams acting in this area. Fire behaviour and possible side effects produced by a complete window burning in the first floor above the fire source are not dealt with by the survey. The immediate scope is the testing of external wall thermal insulation composite systems, of back-ventilated curtain walling as well as of ventilated curtain walling according to the requirements mentioned in OIB-Richtlinie 2.
