This document defines designations and abbreviations for the designation and labelling of wood species and provides information on the characteristic values of important commercial timber. The characteristic values for strength and modulus according to Table 2 to Table 14 refer to defect-free wood and cannot be directly transferred to construction timber. The influence of growth properties and wood characteristics such as knottiness, knot sizes, inclination of the wood fibre, etc. must be taken into particular consideration here. This document does not cover load-bearing components (timber structures) of buildings. For the design, reference is made to the material characteristics of ÖNORM EN 1995-1-1 (Eurocode 5).
