Die Norm enthält Bauvorschriften für alle Arten von Toren und kraftbetätigten Türen, unabhängig vom verwendeten Werkstoff. Ausgenommen sind handbetätigte Türen (Türschließer gelten nicht als Antrieb), Aufzugstüren, Fahrzeugtüren, Theatervorhänge, Schleusen- und Docktore sowie Scherengitter. Für Brandschutzabschlüsse sind zusätzlich die ÖNORMEN B 3800 Teil 3, B 3850, B 3852 bzw. B 3860, für Rauchabschlüsse ist die ÖNORM B 3855 heranzuziehen. Begriffsbestimmungen für Tore sind der ÖNORM B 1200 zu entnehmen.
