Diese ÖNORM enthält Angaben über die Maße und Stellflächen von Möbeln für die Planung, Ausstattung und Einrichtung von Wohn-, Arbeits- und Aufenthaltsräumen sowie die erforderlichen Bewegungsflächen und Abstände. Maße, die nicht in Klammern stehen, sind bevorzugt anzuwenden. In Klammern und nicht in Klammern stehende Maße dürfen kombiniert werden. Weiters gibt diese ÖNORM eine Hilfestellung für die Grundrissplanung von Räumen. Planungsgrundlagen für barrierefreies Bauen sind in ÖNORM B 1600 festgelegt. Sind in anderen ÖNORMEN Abmessungen für spezielle Möbel (z. B. Schulmöbel) festgelegt, so gelten diese vorrangig.
