Das Dokument stellt eine Ergänzung zu EN 50020 dar. Es ersetzt nicht die Errichtungsbestimmungen für eigensichere elektrische Betriebsmittel, zugehörige elektrische Betriebsmittel und eigensichere elektrische Systeme.
