Diese ÖNORM enthält Regeln für medizinische Betriebe, in denen offene radioaktive Stoffe verwendet werden. Daher steht der Begriff "radioaktive Stoffe" in dieser ÖNORM immer für "offene radioaktive Stoffe". Diese Regeln sind anzuwenden auf einen gemäß Strahlenschutzgesetz bewilligungspflichtigen Umgang mit radioaktiven Stoffen. Es werden die Themen der Handhabung von radioaktiven Stoffen, die Aufbewahrung und der innerbetriebliche Transport von radioaktiven Stoffen, die Reinigung von Räumen und Gegenständen sowie die Abfallbeseitigung, Überwachungsmaßnahmen und die bei unvorhergesehenen Ereignissen zu treffenden Maßnahmen behandelt.
