Laserstrahlschneiden befindet sich derzeit in einer raschen Entwicklungsphase. Es war daher naheliegend, dieses Verfahren gleichrangig mit anderen thermischen Schneidverfahren in einer Norm zu erfassen und neben den Begriffsbestimmungen auch eine Güteeinteilung der erreichbaren Schnittflächen vorzunehmen. Behandelt wird das Laserstrahlschneiden von hiezu geeigneten metallischen Werkstoffen für Werkstückdicken bis zu 10 mm.
