Diese ÖNORM enthält Anforderungen an die Konstruktion, die Herstellung und die betrieblichen Kenngrößen von Heizkesseln sowie Bestimmungen für deren Prüfung und Kennzeichnung. Diese ÖNORM beinhaltet nicht die Ausrüstung der Heizkessel. Heizkessel im Sinne der ÖNORM sind Einrichtungen zum Erhitzen der Wärmeträger Wasser oder Wassergemische mit Feuerungen für feste, flüssige, gasförmige Brennstoffe, mit elektrischer Beheizung oder mit Beheizung durch Heißgase, bei denen die höchstzulässige Betriebstemperatur des Wärmeträgers Wasser von 100 °C, entsprechend dem atmosphärischen Siedepunkt von Wasser, bezogen auf Meeresniveau, nicht überschritten wird.
