Es werden Festlegungen von allgemeinen Benennungen und Definitionen zur praxisnahen Verwendung in Feuerwehr- und Brandschutzwesen getroffen, wobei die Begriffsbestimmungen folgende Bereiche erfassen: Teil 2: Verbrennungsvorgang, Brand, Brandschutz. Ein zugehöriges Stichwortverzeichnis ist in ÖNORM F 1000 Beiblatt enthalten. Wegen der allgemeinen Verwendbarkeit wurden physikalische und chemische Vorgänge in möglichst einfacher Weise - teilweise unter Verzicht auf wissenschaftliche Exaktheit - definiert.
