Diese Europäische Vornorm legt die Grundanforderungen und Prüfverfahren für Textilien im Gesundheitswesen im Neuzustand fest, um dazu beizutragen, dass die Eignung eines Produkts für dessen bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung gesichert wird. Es ist bekannt, dass gegenwärtig Materialien erhältlich sind, die über diese Norm hinausgehen; diese aufgelisteten Mindestanforderungen sind aufgestellt worden, damit eine annehmbare Gebrauchstauglichkeit erreicht wird. Diese Europäische Vornorm ist weder auf Operations-Textilien gemäß der Richtlinie für Medizinprodukte noch auf Schutzkleidung gemäß der Richtlinie für persönliche Schutzausrüstungen anwendbar.
