Die Einzahlangaben nach diesem Teil von ISO 717 sind für die Bewertung der Luftschalldämmung und für die einfache Formulierung von Schallschutzanforderungen in Bauvorschriften vorgesehen. Die erforderlichen Werte dieser Einzahlangaben werden für verschiedene Anforderungen angegeben. Grundlage für die Einzahlangabe sind Ergebnisse aus Messungen in Terzbändern oder in Oktavbändern. Bezüglich Messungen in Prüfständen nach ISO 140-3, ISO 140-9 und ISO 140-10 sollten Einzahlangaben nur aus Ergebnissen in Terzbändern berechnet werden. Die Ermittlung von Einzahlangaben aus Ergebnissen von Messungen für einen erweiterten Frequenzbereich ist im Anhang B behandelt.
