Diese Internationale Norm gibt allgemeine Hinweise bezüglich der Vorkehrungen, die bei der Konservierung und dem Transport aller Wasserproben einschließlich derer für biologische Untersuchungen getroffen werden; Proben zur mikrobiologischen Untersuchung sind ausgeschlossen. Diese Hinweise sind besonders für jene Proben (Einzel- oder Mischproben) geeignet, die nicht unmittelbar vor Ort untersucht werden können und hierfür in das Labor gebracht werden müssen. Diese ÖNORM enthält die Europäische Berichtigung AC:2007 mit der die Tabelle 1 (Determinant Zinn) in der deutschen Sprachfassung korrigiert wurde.
