Diese Internationale Norm legt Anforderungen zur Einteilung von Drahtelektroden, Drähten und Stäben für das Schutzgasschweißen und Wolfram-Inertgasschweißen von warmfesten Stählen fest sowie für ihr Schweißgut im Schweißzustand oder nach einer Wärmebehandlung. Eine Drahtelektrode kann mit unterschiedlichen Schutzgasen geprüft und entsprechend eingeteilt werden. Diese Internationale Norm benutzt zur Einteilung ein kombiniertes System, das auf der Einteilung nach der chemischen Zusammensetzung der Drahtelektroden, Drähte und Stäbe mit Anforderungen an Streckgrenze und an die durchschnittliche Kerbschlagarbeit des reinen Schweißgutes von 47 J beruht oder auf der Zugfestigkeit des reinen Schweißgutes und der chemischen Zusammensetzung der Drahtelektroden, Drähte und Stäbe.
