Festgelegt sind Anforderungen an Schweißverbindungen aus thermoplastischen Kunststoffen, die durch Prüfungen nachzuweisen sind. Die Wahl des zweckmäßigen Prüfverfahrens ist entsprechend der jeweiligen Ausführung und Anwendung zu treffen. Die Prüfergebnnise sind von den Herstellbedingungen für die Probekörper und von den Prüfbedingungen abhängig. Sie sind deshalb auf das Verhalten der Erzeugnisse oder für die Berechnung einer Konstruktion nur dann übertragbar, wenn die auftretenden Praxisbeanspruchungen den Prüfbedingungen entsprechen.
