Die Norm ist für Dämmschichten (wärmedämmende Zwischenschichten) anzuwenden, die dazu bestimmt sind, gemeinsam mit dem Innenrohr gemäß ÖNORM B 8240 und der Ummantelung gemäß ÖNORM B 8242 ein Fangsystem zu bilden, das den in der ÖNORM B 8215 festgelegten Anforderungen an dreischalige Fänge mit Schamotteinnenrohr entspricht. Sie enthält Anforderungen sowie die für die Güteprüfung und Gütesicherung notwendigen Prüfbestimmungen. Die Norm sieht eine Fremdüberwachung aufgrund eines Überwachungsvertrages mit einer österreichischen staatlich autorisierten Prüfanstalt sowie die Kennzeichnung "ÖNORM B 8241 geprüft" vor.
