The present ÖNORM specifies several classes for different requirements which, on the one hand, allow for dwelling activities with higher sound emission (e.g. playing of musical instruments, operation of high-capacity music equipment) and, on the other hand, provide diffentiated protection against noise from adjacent units or from outside. In addition, the present ÖNORM should offer the possibility to define and assess existing buildings as to their sound insulation and to represent the result in a "sound insulation certificate"
