ÖNORM B 8115-3

This Austrian Standard provides information on planning room acoustics for: a) rooms in which good audibility - especially speech intelligibility - is to be ensured, e.g. rooms for music and speech performances, communication and music rehearsals, and educational rooms; b) rooms in which noise reduction is the primary goal, e.g. work rooms, offices, production rooms, educational rooms, break rooms, access areas, restaurants and sports halls. Not covered by this Standard are — rooms in which exceptionally high expectations are placed on the acoustic conditions (e.g. opera houses, concert halls, sound recording studios); — living rooms and the like in which the furnishings in particular shape the room acoustics (e.g. hotel rooms, nursing home rooms). Nevertheless, the contents of this ÖNORM can be used to qualitatively classify such rooms. The desired acoustic comfort (audibility, noise reduction), the length of stay, the noise development and the associated need for noise reduction are decisive for the assignment of uses to the respective class.
