Die Norm behandelt die Bestimmung der Oberflächenkontamination von Geräten und Anlagen, von Behältern für radioaktive Stoffe und von umschlossenen radioaktiven Stoffen, ausgedrückt als Aktivität je Flächeneinheit. Die Norm gilt für Beta-Strahler mit einer maximalen Beta-Energie größer als 0,15 MeV und für Alpha-Strahler. Sie ist nur anwendbar auf Beta- und Alpha-Strahler, deren Erzeugungsrate in bezug auf Beta-Teilchen bei 100 Teilchen je 100 Zerfällen liegt. Die Norm gilt nicht für die Bestimmung der Kontamination von Haut und Kleidung.
