Diese Norm legt ein Verfahren zum Bestimmen der medienunterstützten Spannungsrißbildung (ESC) von Kunststoffen fest, bei dem diese einem Zeitstandzugversuch in Gegenwart von Medien unterworfen werden. Probekörper können durch Formgebung sowie durch mechanisches Bearbeiten hergestellt werden. Verfahren zur Bestimmung der medienunterstützten Spannungsrißbildung unter konstanter Dehnung sind in ISO 4599 und ISO 4600 beschrieben.
