Die Formaldehydgehalte sind als die Menge an Formaldehyd zu verstehen, die in einem wäßrigen Extrakt des Leders enthalten ist. Die Norm enthält zwei Verfahren zur Bestimmung von freiem und freigesetztem Formaldehyd in Leder. Das eine Verfahren ist hinsichtlich der Laboratoriumsausrüstung relativ einfach (photometrisches Verfahren), während das andere Verfahren eine aufwendige Ausrüstung (HPLC-Verfahren) erfordert. Das zweite Verfahren ist selektiv und gegen gefärbte Extrakte unempfindlich.
